Nothing is going well for India's star women cricketer Jemima Rodrigues. She is the target of critics after her poor performance in the Women's T20 World Cup. Rodrigues could not reach 30 runs even once in 4 innings. She scored 13, 23, 16 and 16. Team India could not reach the semi-finals.
Now another bad news has come for Jemima. Khar Gymkhana, one of the oldest clubs in Mumbai, has canceled her membership. Khar Gymkhana has taken this step due to the protests of Jemima's father Ivan Rodrigues. Her father has been accused of participating in programs related to conversion.
This action has been taken by the officials of Khar Gymkhana after some members accused her father Ivan of using the club premises for religious activities. The club members had objected to this. It has been said that conversion was being incited in the religious program.
On this matter, Khar Gymkhana called an annual general meeting on Sunday. In this, it was decided to cancel Jemima's membership.
Speaking to The Indian Express, Khar Gymkhana President Vivek Devnani said, "The honorary three-year membership given to Jemima Rodrigues was revoked as per a resolution passed by the members present at the general meeting held on October 20, 2024." Khar Gymkhana Managing Committee member Shiv Malhotra explained the reasons.
He said, "We came to know that Jemima's father was associated with an organization called Brother Manuel Ministries. He had booked the Presidential Hall for about one and a half years.
During this time 35 programs were organized. We all know what was happening there. We hear about conversions all over the country, but this is happening right under our nose."
Shiv Malhotra further said, "There was dancing, expensive musical equipment, big screens. As per the rules of Khar Gymkhana, as per Rule 4A of the constitution, Khar Gymkhana does not allow any religious activity."
Former Khar Gymkhana president Nitin Gadekar said he was informed about the "religious activity" by an employee. He said, "I, Malhotra and some other members went to see it.
We saw that the room was dark, trance music was playing and a woman was saying 'he is coming to save us'.
I wondered how the gymkhana could allow this in the first place. We protested and it was decided that their membership should be cancelled."
